Organizational Support for SB 830

Senator Anthony Portantino's bill SB830 would change the LCFF (local control funding formula) for California public schools and make it reliant on enrollment, not attendance. California is currently one of only seven states that decide funding based on this model and it isn't providing our schools with the funding we desperately need.

Districts hire teachers, order supplies, and staff schools based on enrollment, not attendance, so to receive less money to support those things due to students missing class is punitive and hurts schools.

SB 830 is currently in committee with the Senate Standing Committee on Education. The Destiny Education Project submitted its letter of position here:

In our letter of support to both CA State Assembly Committee on Education & the CA State Senate Committee on Education, we reiterate the language as written in BUSD Board resolution 29 which supports Senate bill No. 830 for Supplemental Educational Funding Based on Average Daily membership, which would have the fiscal impact of an added $5.8 million to Burbank Unified.

We have included our organizational letter of support as well as BUSD’s resolution below.
