On Feb. 23 the DEP Board had the honor of attending an interview session with Boston University Professor, NYT Bestselling Author, Nat'l Book Award Winner and Director of the Center for Antiracist Research, Dr. Ibram X Kendi.

An important pillar of antiracist organizing is narrative. We are so inspired by Destiny who engaged the media over the last month to tell her story, and share about what founding this non-profit means to her.

In February, during the Black History Month launch of Destiny's Peer-to-Peer reading program, we reached 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students with meaningful representation and community connection.

Senator Anthony Portantino's bill SB830 would change the LCFF (local control funding formula) for public schools and make it reliant on enrollment, not attendance. California is currently one of only seven states that decide funding based on this model and it isn't providing our schools with the funding we desperately need.

The Destiny Education Project was proud to present the John Muir Middle School with a donation to increase diverse literature and non-fiction selections in their school library. It was touching to have school principal Dr. Greg Miller & Library Coordinator Alicia Feldman Boote at the school board meeting to receive the donation and share some thoughts.

This was a major foundational shift….Going forward we can start supporting our Native communities.
